Why it matters

Open an MBOX file — no mail client needed

The usual advice for an MBOX file is to install Thunderbird, create a profile, add an import add-on, and wait — a lot of ceremony when you just need to find one message in a Gmail Takeout export. Mailward opens the MBOX directly: drop the file, browse the messages, run full-text search, and open attachments, all parsed locally in a Web Worker.

Multi-gigabyte Takeout exports work because the file is streamed in pages instead of loaded whole. Reading and single-message export are free; batch export is the paid step.

Questions

Before you trust a mail file to a website

Q. Can it open a Google Takeout Gmail export?

Yes — Takeout's .mbox output is the main thing people open here. Multi-gigabyte exports work because the file is streamed in pages rather than loaded into memory.

Q. Do I need Thunderbird or any mail client?

No. The MBOX is parsed directly in your browser — nothing to install, no profile or import wizard to configure.

Q. Is my mail uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read with the browser's File API and parsed in a Web Worker on your machine. You can go offline after the page loads and keep reading.

Q. Can I convert messages out of the MBOX?

Single-message EML export is free. Batch export of folders or the whole mailbox is part of the one-time Pro license.
